Sunnen Products Company is Hiring a Tool And Die Maker III Near St. Louis, MO

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties required to make new machine fixtures, repair or upgrade old fixtures, as well as make a variety of complex tooling. Assist and support assembly, Production, T & E, Special Systems, Honing Lab and Abrasive departments, holding required tolerances to the .0001 of an inch or less.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

1. Review blueprints and geometric tolerancing to determine an efficient and effective procedure for machining all types of metals, plastics, cast iron, graphite etc…

2. Operate computer software (OnBase and Windchill) to retrieve drawings and solid models.

3. Select and verify raw materials and cutting of stock with knowledge of proper cutting speeds and feeds for a variety of materials and cutting tools.

4. Operate milling machine on tooling and fixtures.

5. Operate lathe by running variety of fixtures and tooling.

6. Operate surface grinding and cylinder machine on parts to exact tolerances.

7. Operate drill press to drill, ream and tap various tooling.

8. Operate mono-set grinding machine to machine parts as needed.

9. Program and operate CNC machines using G-code, conversational programming or GibbsCAM as needed for different jobs.

10. Fabricate and repair various metals by the use of welding, brazing and soldering using oxy acetylene and mig welder.

11. Operate band saw and cut off saw and cut raw stock.

12. Operate horizontal milling machine as needed.

13. Operate honing machine as needed for a precision bore.

14. Operate a variety of gauging equipment.

15. Build gauging equipment for production of machining parts.

16. Design a plan for the building of a particular job.

17. Assist and troubleshoot any problems in the shop.

18. Operate computer to locate tooling, stock and warehouse items.

19. Locate materials needed to complete the job.

20. Determine which machine or tools to use to make parts.

21. Build fixtures and tooling for Testing and Evaluation Lab.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop and crouch, push, pull, reach, grasp, feel, talk, and hear.

2. Generally light physical effort. The employee is required to lift more than 60 pounds rarely and/or 25 to 60 pounds occasionally and move around large areas or to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects unassisted or with the use of a hand truck or hoist.

3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision at a distance of 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships along with adjusting the eye to bring objects into sharp focus for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Somewhat undesirable working conditions. Exposed to undesirable elements (i.e., odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, chemicals) with no element continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable. Personal protective equipment is normally required of the position.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Requires the use of high school level mathematics with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and data bases. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments and the ability to make minor modifications to equipment and CNC programs, using computers to input data. Interpretation of data and measuring devices requires advanced skills and knowledge. Equivalent to one to three years applied trades training.

Experience: Requires a minimum of one year up to and including three years to gain sufficient experience to perform the requirements of the position.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, which are furnished in written and oral form.

2. Ability to deal with problems involving standard and nonstandard situations.

3. Ability to stand on feet for prolonged periods of time.

4. Ability to communicate and work with others.
